FRIDAY THE 13th: PART 5 - PART 6 - PART 7

I am going to discuss the 5th, 6th and 7th films in the franchise - SPOILERS AHEAD!

PART 5 - A NEW BEGINNING

This film features a weak performance by our lead actor as Tommy Jarvis and the best actress in the final girl Pam.  The film's best moment probably comes from the barn fight where all three major characters come together to fight Jason - a cool scene that is a lot of fun to watch.

There is a ton of very goofy moments here that I think go much too far like the flare in the mouth of the dorky kids in the car, the black singer on the toilet going number 2  and singing "oh baby."  It is interesting that Jason is a mantle that someone can take up to begin killing - that concept is the most interesting part of this plot it is NOT JASON in the end but a disgruntled dad.

Part 6 - JASON LIVES

A car chase, memorable group of kills, a great final girl and a much stronger adult Tommy Jarvis creates a sense of unity and excitement in this one.  The resurrection of Jason is super-natural and a turn for the most unbelievable part of a Friday the 13th film yet.   Paintball guys and gals are a bit too goofy but the scene is sort of fun. I like the plot of this one and the actors/characters who are onscreen are very well performed and believable as an ensemble cast - Jennifer Cooke as Megan is a real standout.  She is a strong and attractive character who has a great storyline.

PART 7 - THE NEW BLOOD

This film is a little too supernatural for it to really work - maybe it would be great outside of an established group of films.  The truth is that we do not ever have super-powers in this world and to create unbelievable Tina as a super-hero is not an effective tool to fight Jason.
