This film is unique because it goes down a road less traveled. It allows characters to slowly and honestly develop and meanwhile build dangerously slow suspense. It is confident to say for a massive amount of screen time - "okay, some shit is coming. Not yet."
I respect "The Endless" filmmaking duo for carefully plotting this course. The film deals with cosmic horror, another road less traveled because it is so damn hard to get it right. There are almost an endless (pun intended) amount of things this film strives to do and succeeds ultimately in doing for those with the patience to peel back the layers one by one and keep looking inside.
I hope to see much much more from these filmmakers as they have synthesized the ability to tell complex narratives while keeping to a vision that they themselves hold. They also should be celebrated for shooting the thing themselves - Moorhead is the DP - and writing the story and so much more.
