ONE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO is a winner. This film is quite prepared to unleash on the viewer what seems like countless action sequences, unlimited fun and memorable characters. In an interview with Rodriguez, we find that one of the elements of the story he honed into was to have a "PART 3" that did not exist slowly revealed through flashback. This allows for the audience to ride along as we see the adventures of El Mariachi and his love in amazing situations. The use of music in a sort of lone gunslinger kind of way is unique. The music itself is calming and beautiful guitar music and it is both fitting and "different."
Johnny Depp plays a fed and his character is both the most ruthless son of a bitch in the world and also probably the person with the most ridged set of ideals. He believes it is his moral responsibility to bring balance to MEXICO and he does this by both eliminating what is "too good" and "too bad." His mentality is both funny and terrible as he kills a cook for his perfect execution of a dish so that no one may be too far above the fray.
