"12 Monkeys" is a HELL OF A RIDE. The camera is constantly sliding, flying and going dutch. The camera energy and movements here are energized and unpredictable...as scattered and hyper as the mental state of the characters. The dystopian feeling of control is a staple of the science fiction genre and here we see this again but the madness is also comic. The film has serious moments that are balanced with an even and clever sense of comedy that all the actors tap into at various moments.
All performances on display here are worth noting with possibly some of the best career work from Willis, Pitt and company, Brad Pitt himself receiving a Golden Globe nomination.
