The Apocalypse Now Book by Peter Cowie

What could be more interesting than the journey to make one of the most respected war films ever created...APOCALYPSE NOW.  The film is a masterpiece and the trials Coppola had to go through to get it made were nearly impossible but it is true that relentless determination, passion, vision and courage can make GREAT films spring to life.  Interesting aspects of the book include the chapters detailing the martin sheen "drunk" hotel room scene, the endless rewrites of the screenplay, the haphazard editing process and the necessary premiere at Cannes to gain the respect of foreign press and to fight against the American press who were determined to gossip about and destroy the credibility of the film before release.
