Article: THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR Director: Sydney Pollack Stars: Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway Genre: Thriller
A fantastic film with the legendary Robert Redford is exactly the kind of film I was looking to watch. I have enjoyed watching Redford so much that I am thinking he may actually be one of my favorite movie stars and CONDOR does not disappoint. Dunaway is also wonderful here and their scenes are intimate and beautifully shot.
I will admit that this film may have one of the most awkwardly put together sex scenes (ever) in a film. Pollack intercuts the love-making with boring architectural photographs taken by Dunaway's character...and it doesn't really work. It luckily does not bring us down much but it seems like an overly indulgent choice at this stage of the action especially with no precedent for this style of filmmaking being established prior to this strange scene in the film. I really mean it when I say that this is a sleek and beautiful thriller.
I also want to acknowledge that New York City is gorgeous in this film and it is passionately photographed - from dark noir alleyways as Redford disappears down them in a cloud of smoke or as mysterious and dizzying gray mazes of anxiety.
