POSSESSION (1981) is an incredibly vibrant, haunting and claustrophobic horror experience. It is a film about the painful demise of relationships...cheating, sex and ultimately death. The sequence where Anna brings the P.I. into her apartment and there is something in the dark the whole time, waiting for him - it is disturbing beyond belief.
The film does not seem like it is heading the way it does but it works and becomes more of a monster film...and it leaves you feeling terribly uneasy by all the crazy character set-up. Memorable work by all - excellent directing, script and performances when viewed as a hyper-fantasy horror film (not realistic or subtle) disguised as a relationship drama. WOW.
