Article: HALLOWEEN (1978) Director: John Carpenter Stars: Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance Genre: Horror
Halloween is an obsession for me. It's not the killings that make it interesting for me. The most fascinating part of Halloween is watching our two (polar opposite) heroes - LAURIE STRODE and DR. LOOMIS - fight against an unstoppable force of evil...MICHAEL MEYERS.
The film is so simple...and that is where its power lies. Here is the plot:
-KILLER breaks loose
-DOCTOR warns everyone of unimaginable evil unleashed, hunts the KILLER
-GIRL introduced she lives a carefree life
-KILLER starts to kill people and then all of GIRL'S friends
-KILLER pursues GIRL!
-DOCTOR finds KILLER and scares him off before GIRL is killed
-KILLER is alive, evil lives on...
It is possible to overanalyze a film like HALLOWEEN and I won't do that! Even John Carpenter explains that Halloween is a simple fight between good and evil...but the evil is truly UNSTOPPABLE and that is what makes it a terrifying nightmare we scream to wake up from.
