BONE TOMAHAWK (2015) Director: S. Craig Zahler Stars: Kurt Russel, Patrick Wilson Genre: Western/Horror

A good film that combines elements of ultra violent torture films like HOSTEL and the western genre.  It is slow and 80% western 20% horror but the film works very well and is totally worth watching till the bitter sweet end.  I hate to admit that I attempted to watch the film a while back and did not finish it.  I came back to watch it again and this time was really with the story and the interesting characters.  It is exciting to consider the potential of the genre Western/Horror and I was admittedly hoping for more of a horror feeling but it works.  The acting here is superb and the directing is exciting yet natural.  Some shots in the film are gorgeous.

The director has an interesting quote on the business that explains his take on what filmmaking is:

"Write what you think is good, refine it, send it out, and repeat for many years. Find a day job that is satisfying, and also lets your mind wander so that the only pressure you feel is to become a better writer, not 'get rich in Hollywood." - S. Craig Zahler

Zahler comes at everything in his own personal way, that is to be admired and respected.
